Hawaii: Statehood Unmasked
In
counterpoint to the State of Hawai'i organizing contests and special
events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Hawai'i's becoming a U.S.
state, the Kaua'i Alliance for Peace and Social Justice presented an
event titled Hawai'i: Statehood Unmasked on Saturday, August 1, 3:30 to
8:00 p.m. at the Lihue Neighborhood Center, (new hall).
Dean
Itsuji Saranillio, Ph D., presented a talk based on his doctoral
dissertation, "Seeing Conquest: Colliding Histories and the Cultural
Politics of Hawai’i Statehood". Maui born, Saranillio recently
completed his dissertation at the University of Michigan.
