  •  Here is the name of the INBAR address to write to for research on stress and strength tests; propagation techniques; species research and uses:
  • Visit INBAR - International Network for Bamboo & Rattan:  INBAR

I.V. Ramanuja Rao, Phd.
Principal Scientist
International Network for Bamboo and Rattan
International Development Research Center
17, Jor Bagh, New Delhi 110 003, INDIA
email: RRao@idrc.ca
FAX: 91-11-462-2707

Dr. Rao is a very nice man, I met him in Bali at the Intl. Bamboo Congress 1995, but is probably busy. Try writing him about your bamboo research needs, and he will propably send you a list of references to purchase. (should be affordable). Offer to pay for copy...INBAR is pure research & needs support.

Other resources:

---in your local library, ask for the Journal : Technology Review, edited at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, August Sept issue 1994 and they may have a reference index for other bamboo materials too.
OK! Now go out and promote and use bamboo. Finally, I must remind bamboo researchers that I am a journalist, not an expert in eradication or propagation (basically-just water it) so please don't send me requests for detailed botanical information or where to find or cook the latest bamboo shoots, how to build with it, where to find bamboo items, etc. PS - especially do not send me email asking for eradication tips.

Sincerely,
Carol Bain, PO Box 662320, Lihue, HI 96766
